Purton Surgery developed a Patient Participation Group last year in order to promote communication between patients and the Surgery. This group works with the practice to offer the patients perspective on the services that are provided. They also encourage patients to take more responsibility for their health and provide practical support. Purton Patient Participation Group or "G4P" (group for patients as the group have named themselves) has developed a newsletter which is available via the G4P Newsletter tab.
The Group also helps to encourage patients to take more responsibilty for their health. There is a notice board in the waiting room at the Surgery for the group and they now have an e-mail address. Also you can follow the group on Facebook and Twitter, click on the links below:
If anyone wishes to leave messages or information for the group you can do so by click on the Contact us tab, emailling email@example.com or by dropping/posting the information to Kai at Purton Surgery.
Why a Patient Participation Group would benefit Purton Surgery
Patients will have a better understanding and knowledge of the pratice and the staff. Who is responsible for what and who actually works behind the scenes.
Patients will benefit from improved communications with staff - possible implementation of practice newsletter in the future.
Patients will have a forum to suggest positive ideas and voice concerns.
Patients will be more responsible for their own health.
Services for the Surgery will be planned jointly in order to increase their effectiveness.
Targets and objectives will be met jointly with the patients help.
Patients will have an organisation through which they can identify their own needs.
Patient will be able to get an idea of what is needed to improve healthcare, and make sure that the patient view is always represented.

Through hampers at ‘flu clinics, Vintage Tea Parties and other events we have raised funds to purchase larger chairs with arms for the waiting rooms in both surgeries, a Dermatoscope, and now we are raising funds for a Doppler Machine. We also held a Cheese and Wine Evening to raise funds for Brighter Futures at Great Western Hospital for their fundraising appeal for a radiotherapy unit at the hospital.
Profits from the books sold in the surgery assist our funds as does money from the Table Top sales – donations of books and items for the table top should be handed in to the receptionists.
Information Evening – Sepsis, Thursday 14 March
By the time you read this our Information Evening on Sepsis on Thursday 14 March will have taken place. Thanks are due to our speaker Nicola Deveaux, Team Lead in Acute Sepsis and Kidney Injury at Great Western Hospital.
Quiz Evening with a Fish and Chip Supper – Friday 29 March
This event to raise funds for a Doppler Machine again will have taken place by the time you read this.
A Doppler is used for patients who suffer from leg ulcers who have a risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and therefore have to have regular checks for this.
The procedure that is undertaken is called a Doppler assessment. The nurse uses the machine to measure the blood flow through legs and ankles. This procedure is very long with a pre-measurement resting time of up to 20 minutes, and a further 30 minutes to complete the assessment.
A new Doppler machine will allow the measurement to be done in minutes and cost around £3,000. Not only will this benefit patients needing this assessment, but it will also free up valuable appointment time for other patients.
As always, your support for our work to both inform and support patients and the practice is much appreciated.
